Indoor Court Markings for Primary Schools

Indoor Court Markings for Primary Schools

Primary School Halls have to be multi-purpose spaces but that should not stop them from being exciting sports areas as well. Little Pardon Primary Academy had a worn our floor that was beyond saving with no markings.

Burnt Mill Academy Trust (BMAT) contacted us as we have worked on their previous sports floor renovations and they trust us to impartially inspect their sports hall floors to say how the floor can be refurbished or in this case replaced. Once it was agreed that a new floor was needed, we prepared a court layout drawing for the teachers to agree and finally painted the court markings to bring the new sports floor to life.

Little Pardon was the first Primary Academy we had done for the Trust but the principals are the same although the courts are different. It was agreed with the Trust and School that an innovative flexible court layout was the aim and we set to work on designing a layout that would encourage different sporting uses of the space to make the life of PE staff easier and more fun for the pupils.

We started with a small netball court and added a centre line so it can be used playing across the length as a single match court for netball, football and hockey and across the width as three practice areas. A dodgeball court for U11s was featured in the main area, where the recommended court size is equivalent to a standard badminton court. British Dodgeball have Junior rules and regulations and provide many opportunities for junior dodgeball players to take park in events and develop their skills. (www.britishdodgeball.org)

The School chose Taraflex® Multi-Use in red and blue in the belief that primary aged children respond positively to visually strong colours, installed by Durant Cricket Ltd whose install staff have undergone training at Gerflor HQ in Villeurbanne Cedex, France ensuring that when they install a new Taraflex® surface the job is done to the highest quality.

The pupils now have a real sports floor in the P1 category (complies with EN Standard 14904) 25-35% shock absorption. Gerflor say that Multi-Use has excellent indentation resistance and recovery, making it the ideal solution for areas where there are tables and chairs in use.

Jeramias Odebode, PE Co-ordinator for Little Pardon:

“All i can say is that it has made teaching much easier, with the lines being there in different colours it makes going from one activity to the next very easy. Pupils like the lines too and have commented on how better the floor is now we don’t have to use tape anymore, it makes learning easier as the layout is so versatile.”

Lucia Glynn, Director of Operations and Programmes BMAT:

“Thank you, Rosie and please could i say, this is a fantastic job. Really delighted with it.”
